Boys & Girls Club of Dane County hosted a surprise birthday party for Wisconsin Badgers basketball player and BGCDC intern Rob Wilson at its Taft Street location on Thursday morning.
Wilson has served as an intern for the Boys & Girls Club since December 2011. Officials said he has become a huge inspiration for the BGC kids.
"I had no clue. I'm thinking I'm coming in for another day's work, setting a meeting this morning." Wilson said. "It was kind of weird because hu usually never leaves me in the office by myself, and he disappeared for five minutes."
During his internship at the Club, coaches have commented on his increased confidence and leadership on the basketball court, but the kids also bring out a different side of Wilson.
"Yeah. A lot of people say when I'm around the kids I speak a lot more," Wilson said. "I mean when you talk to the kids and you see how much they enjoy your presence it makes you open up a lot more."
Through his interactions with the kids, staff and other community participants Wilson has made a huge impact in the community.Wilson turned 22 on Thursday. Wilson credited the Boys and Girls Club for helping him as a child, and he said he hopes to continue to be involved in helping others as an adult.
