Police To Step Seat Belt, Drunken Driving Enforcement

Police To Step Seat Belt, Drunken Driving Enforcement

The town of Madison Police Department will step up safety belt and drunken driving enforcement during St. Patrick's Day holiday period.

The crackdown will start on Friday, March 4 and run through Sunday, March, 20.

"Our intensified traffic safety enforcement during the St. Patrick's holiday period and throughout the year will help prevent motorists from killing and injuring themselves and others on our roadways," said Chief Scott Gregory.

Gregory said the department's hoped to see improvement voluntary compliance, but they now hope this measure will add safety to the roads for those who are following the rules in place.

"We are serious about traffic safety enforcement because far too many needless deaths and serious injuries are due to the drunken driving and not wearing safety belts," Gregory said. " Our goal is to reduce preventable traffic deaths to zero in Wisconsin because even one preventable traffic fatality is one too many."
