Public Meeting Set For County PD With Verona Road Intersection Improvements

 

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation said a public information meeting will be held on July 12 to discuss the improvements to the County PD (McKee Road) with US 18/US 151 (Verona Road) intersection in Dane County.

The meeting will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Fitchburg Fire Station #2, 5415 King James Way in Fitchburg.

The proposed project will reconstruct the County PD (McKee Road) with US 18/US 151 (Verona Road) intersection. The project will include adding an additional left-turn lane to the County PD (McKee Road) eastbound and westbound intersection approaches to minimize existing congestion and mitigate future construction traffic for the upcoming Verona Road Interchange project. Construction is scheduled for 2012.

The public is invited to attend the meeting, provide input and ask questions concerning this project.

Broom Street, John Nolen Drive Rail Crossing Needs Replacement

On Sunday, June 12, Wisconsin Southern Railroad will be making an emergency rail replacement to the rail crossing located on Broom Street near John Nolen Drive. 

This will require the closing of westbound Broom Street, or the inbound lane, at the rail crossing between the hours of 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Traffic is encouraged to use North Shore Drive to West Washington Avenue as an alternate route.

High Temperatures Lead To Buckling On Beltline

Traffic will be closed in two lanes on the Beltline at South Towne Drive due to road buckling, according to the Dane County Sheriff's Department.

Officials said high temperatures on Tuesday, caused buckling at about 5:20 p.m.

The County Highway Department crews are working to fix several areas of the road, officials said. Motorists should expect delays or should find alternate routes.

The lane closures are expected to last about an hour, officials said.

Eastbound Beltline Lanes Closed For Emergency Maintenance

 

Two lanes of the eastbound Beltline near South Towne Drive are closed due to emergency maintenance Monday afternoon, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation said.

The DOT said at about 4 p.m. that motorists are advised to use alternate routes. 

The lanes were closed due to pavement blowups.

Race For The Cure Organizers Update Road Closures, Travel Information

The Bay Creek Neighborhood will be welcoming in runners and walkers for the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure on Saturday, June 4.

There will be road closures, shuttle to-and-from the event and parking plans in place to help participants enjoy the event and others to be aware and navigate safely around the area.

For all those in the area before, during and after the race, thousands of people will be running, walking, and pushing strollers to or from the event, drive slowly, organizers ask.

Participants are asked to be courteous and careful of the residents’ property.

To ensure the safety of the Komen Madison Race for the Cure participants, the following streets will be closed the morning of the Race:

Activities Highlight 2011 Ride The Drive Event

Details about the events for the Madison Parks Department's Ride the Drive event have been released.

Ride the Drive is a community event that transforms some of Madison's streets into a public promenade. During the event, roads in the six mile route are open for participants to bike, skate or walk through some of Madison's signature streets. The event is free and open to the public.

The Ride the Drive is on Sunday, June 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This year's event includes family friendly activities along the route provided by the city, community organizations and local businesses.

Madison Firefighters Contain Liquid Fertilizer Spill

Hazmat crews cleaned up about 30 gallons of liquid fertilizer that spilled on the Park Street exit ramp from the beltline Friday morning, according to the Madison Fire Department.

A lawn care truck was leaking the fluid at about 8:45 a.m., fire officials said. They said crews used buckets to capture the liquid fertilizer until the leak was stopped, and they used absorbent material to soak up the fertilizer from the exit ramp.

Dane County Emergency Management, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the Department of Agriculture were notified of the spill.

All fire department units were cleared from the scene by 10:15 a.m. No injuries were reported at this incident, according to fire officials.
