Beltline Lane, Ramp Closures Announced

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation said that work on the eastbound Beltline near Park Street will require the extension of nightly lane closures from 8:30 p.m. Wednesday (Aug. 10) to 5:30 a.m. Thursday (Aug. 11).

Motorists are advised of potential traffic slowdowns and crews working in the vicinity.

In addition, the eastbound Beltline off ramp to Rimrock Road will be closed starting 10 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 11) until 6 a.m. Friday (Aug. 12) due to construction work.

Motorists should utilize the John Nolen exit to access Rimrock Road.

Green Drive Expo Rolls Into Madison

The Dane County Fair will provide the background from the annual Green Drive Expo this weekend.

“When we first started this thing, we called it Hybridfest, but it’s always been more than that," said Eric Powers, founder of Green Drive Expo in a news release. "There are so many options for green ways to travel from point A to point B, some of which don’t even include cars, such as biking or public transit."

With hybrids, plug-in hybrids, electric cars, compressed natural gas vehicles and bio-diesel cars on hand, attendees will learn all about green. The event caters to green drivers and those interested in green transportation in general.

Maintenance To Begin On Capitol City State Trail

 

Starting on Thursday, July 21, Dane County will begin annual maintenance on the Verona Road to Knob Hill segment of the Capital City State Trail. 

Maintenance will include the repair and sealing of surface cracks in the trail. 

Work may take up to several days to complete. 

Trail patrons may want to use alternative routes while maintenance activities are taking place.

Beltline Road Rage Incident Leads To Rollover Crash

The drivers of two vehicles travelling westbound on the Beltline were engaged in a road rage incident that resulted in a rollover Wednesday afternoon, according to the Madison Police Department.

Police said a 64-year-old Madison man began hitting his brakes when he felt he was being tailgated at about 2:40 p.m. The driver of the car behind him became upset at the braking and sped up to pass, police said. The driver then attempted to cut in front of the first car, striking the front bumper with his rear bumper, police said. 

The driver of the passing car lost control and eventually rolled over on to the shoulder of the highway, police said.

No one was injured in the crash.

The driver of the passing car was cited for improper passing, police said.

Eastbound Beltline Lane Closure On Wednesday

The eastbound Beltline between South Towne Drive and Monona Drive will have a single lane closure on Wednesday, July 13 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.  

Motorists are advised of crews working in the area and potential traffic slowdowns.

Public Meeting Set For County PD With Verona Road Intersection Improvements

 

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation said a public information meeting will be held on July 12 to discuss the improvements to the County PD (McKee Road) with US 18/US 151 (Verona Road) intersection in Dane County.

The meeting will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Fitchburg Fire Station #2, 5415 King James Way in Fitchburg.

The proposed project will reconstruct the County PD (McKee Road) with US 18/US 151 (Verona Road) intersection. The project will include adding an additional left-turn lane to the County PD (McKee Road) eastbound and westbound intersection approaches to minimize existing congestion and mitigate future construction traffic for the upcoming Verona Road Interchange project. Construction is scheduled for 2012.

The public is invited to attend the meeting, provide input and ask questions concerning this project.

Broom Street, John Nolen Drive Rail Crossing Needs Replacement

On Sunday, June 12, Wisconsin Southern Railroad will be making an emergency rail replacement to the rail crossing located on Broom Street near John Nolen Drive. 

This will require the closing of westbound Broom Street, or the inbound lane, at the rail crossing between the hours of 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Traffic is encouraged to use North Shore Drive to West Washington Avenue as an alternate route.
