Two people were taken to an area hospital with minor injuries after a five-car beltline crash was caused by a driver using a cell phone early Saturday morning, according to the Madison Police Department.
Police said, one of the two people injured, was Ashley Mezera of Madison, who slowed to nearly a stop to use her cell phone while traveling eastbound on the Beltline between Park Street and Rimrock Road at about 6:45 a.m.
Four other eastbound vehicles were unable to avoid colliding with Mezera's car, police said.
The eastbound lanes were closed from Park Street to Rimrock Road until about 8 a.m. when the scene was cleared.
Mezera faces a charge of reckless driving causing bodily harm, police said.
