Madison All-Star Skater Named Alternate For First Team USA Roller Derby

Wildberry Punch, who is also known as Anne Schuelke and is a six-year veteran skater with the Mad Rollin' Dolls will travel to Toronto on Wednesday, Nov. 30 to begin her second round of practice with the first roller derby Team USA. 

Punch was named one of six alternates to Team USA on Aug. 4 after attending tryouts on July 23 in Tampa, Fla..

Team USA will bout in the first Blood & Thunder Roller Derby World Cup tournament Thursday, Dec. 1 through Monday, Dec. 5, hosted by Toronto Roller Derby.

Punch begins her seventh season skating with Mad Rollin' Dolls at the upcoming season opener Saturday, Dec. 17, themed "Home for the Holidays."

Madison Parks Golf Courses To Close Sunday

Folks are invited to enjoy the last weekend of golf this season at the Madison Parks Golf Courses.

Yahara Hills and Glenway are closed for the season, but two options are open through Sunday.

  • Monona Golf Course, 111 E. Dean Ave., (608) 266-4736 – last day is November 20

Arthritis Foundation Kickoff Event Lead Up To Annual Jingle Bell Run

The Arthritis Foundation will be hosting the 26th annual Jingle Bell Run or Walk on Saturday, Dec.10 starting at Vilas Park in Madison, but the kickoff event will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 8 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Coliseum Bar on Olin Street.

Run, walk, pledge or donate to support the 1.1 million Wisconsin residents living with arthritis. The astonishing number includes both children and adults who are living with this painful and often debilitating disease.

Those who sign up that night will receive $5 off registration. The first 10 people to register will receive Jingle Bell Run scarves. Participants have the chance to win great prizes including, tickets to FestivAle (craft brew tasting), tickets to the ESPN V.I.P Badger Tailgate and more!    

Memorial Football Team Beats Madison East, 48-22

James Madison Memorial High School's football team managed to overcome the loss of their starting quarterback Thursday night as they hammered Madison East 48-22 in a Big Eight showdown.

Spartan quarterback Brandon Toman filled in for injured starter Joe Ferguson, and had 244 yards passing and 5 touchdowns in the first half. He hooked up with Jester Weah for one score. However, Toman's favorite target was Daurice Fountain.

In the first half, Fountain had 191 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns. Memorial goes to 4-4, and still has a shot to make the state playoffs with a win next week. East drops to 3-5.

Extended Highlights: Middleton Tops Madison West 49-14

 

 

The Middleton Cardinals football team continued its unbeaten streak to the start the season with a 49-14 win over Madison West at Mansfield Stadium on Friday night.

Middleton was up two touchdowns early thanks to a 19-yard touchdown from AJ Redders to Chris Thompson.

Later in the first quarter, Middleton struck on special teams. Jake Raffel Gathers broke a few tackles on a 65-yard punt return for a touchdown. The 21-0 first quarter lead told the story in this one.
