City Golf Courses Prepare To Open Soon

The Monona Golf Course driving range will open on Saturday at 9 a.m. City staff is evaluating the course conditions and gettting the buildings ready for the season on all of the city's four golf course. 

The city runs Glenway Golf Course, Odana Hills Golf Course and Yahara Hills Golf Course.

Madison Parks To Close All Winter Activities Due To Warm Weather

Due to unusually warm temperatures, all of the Madison Parks outdoor ice rinks, ski trails, snowshoe trails and sledding hills are closed. 

Staff will attempt to re-open these facilities later this winter if or when conditions allow.

Dane County Snowmobile Trails To Close Tuesday, Wednesday Night

Starting on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m., all Dane County Snowmobile Trails will begin being closed due to deteriorating trail base.  

The Southwest, Southeast and Northeast quadrants of the Dane County Snowmobile Trails will close on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Northwest quadrant will stay open through Wednesday, Jan. 25 and close at midnight.

MSCR To Host Annual Downhill Ski Fundraiser At Tyrol Basin

Enjoy an evening of recreational skiing on Saturday, Jan. 21 from 4 to 9 p.m. at Tyrol Basin in Mount Horeb. The proceeds support the purchase of adapted equipment and scholarships for people with disabilities through the Madison School & Recreation Program.

The MSCR event costs $20. That covers the ski or snowboard rental, helmets and lift ticket. Tickets must be purchased in advance. No ticket sales on site. Register online at www.mscr.org. Call 608-204-3000 for more information.

City Updates Winter Activities At Local Parks

A few more ice rinks are open for skating as of Thursday. The rinks that are open tonight are at Vilas Park, Elver Park, Olbrich Park, Westmorland Park, Goodman Park, Garner Park, Hillington Green Park and Wexford Park.

Staff is continuing to work on the ice rink maintenance, however, Friday's snow predictions could change the status of the rinks. 

Please note that staff is working diligently on Tenney Park lagoon, but have found several areas of thin ice along the shoreline and in the middle of the lagoon. Residents should stay off Tenney Park Lagoon.

Madison Ice Rinks Fall Victim To Warmer Temps

Due to the unseasonably warm weather, the Madison Parks ice rinks that opened earlier this week will need to close, according to the city of Madison Parks Department.

Only Warner Park Lagoon and Olbrich Park ice rinks remain open as of Friday, Jan. 6. However with the warm temperatures, these rinks may close for the weekend.

Madison Parks reminds everyone for their safety, please stay off the Vilas and Tenney lagoons. There is open water and thin ice. Water depths can reach more than five feet deep.

City Ice Rinks, Lagoons Remain Off Limits

The ice conditions at the outdoor ice skating rinks at city of Madison parks are all closed. In some case, the ice is still very thin and dangerous, city officials said.

The city is asking that everyone stay off the rinks.The lagoons at Tenney and Vilas Parks are more than five feet deep in some areas.

Madison Parks will open all winter activities as soon as conditions allow, officials said.
