Scam Artists Use Name of Boys And Girls Club

Scam Artists Use Name of Boys And Girls Club

December is the season for sharing, but what happens when people are preying on people's generosity?

Such a thing happened to Madison resident Crystal Miller, and now she said she wants to warn others so they don't become victims.

The incident happened on Saturday night, and it started out as a typical December shopping experience for Miller and her husband, who were shopping at the South Towne Kohl's department store.

The night, however, took a very strange twist in the parking lot, as the Millers headed inside.

"We get out of the car and this little boy, elementary age, comes up to us and has a box of candy bars," Miller explained. "And (he) says 'Would you like to buy a candy bar for $3?'"

The money was supposedly for the Boys and Girls Club of Dane County, but Miller said the red flags started flying and when they declined the offer. She said they were aggressively approached by a man with the children who gave them a hard time for not buying.

Madison Holiday Market To Raise Money For Madison Ballet

The fourth annual Madison Holiday Market will be held Nov. 5 through 7 at Alliant Energy Center. The market features more than 110 merchants  from across the state and beyond, and will be a great way to get a jump start on tackling those holiday gift lists!

The Madison Holiday Market offers home décor, electronics, jewelry, toys, pottery, gourmet food and more from national artisans, local specialty stores, gift shops and importers of unique items. Product prices range from $2 to $2,000 and the general admission price is $7 per person.

"Don’t be confused. It’s not an art fair or a craft fair and it’s not an expo," said W. Earle Smith, artistic director of Madison Ballet. "The Holiday Market is a fun and unique shopping experience that is an opportunity to eliminate the stress typically brought on by holiday shopping, and supports a nonprofit organization dedicated to entertaining and educating the Madison community."
