MMSD Expected To Sees Drop In State Aid

General aid estimates provided on Friday show that 410 of the state's 424 public school districts will receive less school aid for the 2011-12 school year than they did in the previous year.

The recently enacted state budget set general aid at $4.262 billion for the 2011-12 school year, an 8.4 percent decrease from the previous year.

The Department of Public Instruction has estimated the amount of school aid each district will receive during the coming school year. School personnel use the aid estimates to prepare final budgets.

The Madison Metropolitan School District is estimated to receive $43,203,032 which is down more than $6.7 million from the previous year.

LaFollette Boys, Sun Prairie Girls Win Track Regionals

The march toward the state track meet in La Crosse next month continues, with local teams trying to send their teams to state.

The LaFollette High School boys track team and Sun Prairie High School girls track team made it out of Monday's regional in Waunakee with victories. LaFollette had success in a lot of events, including the 3200 meter relay, where the Lancers get the win over West, Memorial and Monona Grove.

Sun Prairie might have won the girls meet, but individuals from other teams also did well. LaFollette senior Maranda Stoeberl won the regional in the high jump with a mark of 5 feet, 2 inches.

Sectional meets are on Thursday, followed by the state track meet June 3 and June 4 at Veterans Memorial Stadium at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
