Students and staff at Franklin Elementary School will be able to experience a new learning environment this fall thanks to the help of the Wisconsin Landscape Contractors Association for the Madison Chapter.

Last weekend, more than 40 members of the landscape association donated their time, talents, soil, mulch, groundcover and plants to Franklin Elementary School for a new outdoor classroom.

The space will be on the underutilized strip of shaded space adjacent to the school building.

No Summer Vacation for Madison College Students

For the second straight summer, Madison Area Technical College’s enrollment has taken a big jump. In 2009, enrollment increased nearly 22 percent.  It has risen an additional 8 percent in 2010.

"We continue to experience historic enrollment growth," said Madison College vice president for Learner Success Terry Webb.  "While we welcome all students, there’s no doubt the growth is stressing the college’s resources.  We’ve expanded our West and South campuses and we’re using a variety of creative strategies to meet the needs of our community."

Some of the more popular programs include nursing, information technology, accounting, business technology and biotechnology.
