A county highway employee was injured Wednesday afternoon when the vehicle he was operating was hit from behind by another driver on the Beltline, according to a release.

Around 1:50 p.m. a Dane County Department of Transportation and Highway Department employee?s vehicle was hit from behind by a driver trying to exit onto Todd Drive from the eastbound Beltline, officials said.

The worker was operating a sign board truck parked at the end of the Todd Drive exit ramp letting drivers know of nearby construction, according to the release.

Michael P. Polasek, of Monona, was driving a black Ford F150 truck and attempted to negotiate the Todd Drive exit from the center lane of the Beltline, officials said. Polasek?s vehicle then hit the county worker?s vehicle at a high rate of speed, and both vehicles sustained severe damage.

The worker was transported by ambulance to a local hospital as a precaution, according to the release.

Polasek was cited for unreasonable and imprudent speed and unsafe cutting in when passing.
