Police warn of fraudulent check incidents in area | News
The Madison Police Department is warning residents of a fraudulent check scheme it has seen in the area.
According to a release, MPD has received at least 10 calls reporting similar bogus check incidents to the one reported at PLS Loan Store at 1907 South Park Street on Feb. 8.
A 22-year-old woman tried cashing a $4,050 check that she said was sent to her as payment for a job she got over the Internet, police said.
The woman told police her employer, Ryan Henderson, was going to ship her items, and she would repackage things and mail them to other people. The checks she received appeared to be from the Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters Pension Fund.
Investigators contacted the fund manager, who indicated the fraudulent check was not an isolated case.
