Police: Attacker in violent New Year's robbery turns himself in | News
Police said a man is in custody in connection with a violent New Year's Day robbery.
The Madison Police Department said Wednesday morning that a man suspected of beating and robbing a woman Jan. 1 had turned himself in Tuesday.
Leroy Savannah, 23, of Madison, was charged with armed robbery and battery.
Police said a Madison woman had accepted a ride from an acquaintance at about 4:48 p.m. New Year's Day. The 38-year-old victim told police she was struck with a small pipe, choked, punched and robbed while in the man?s car.
The victim told police a second man participated in the robbery from the back seat. According to the report, the second man is still at large.
The woman was left outside near the Verona Frontage Road and later called police from her home on Carling Drive.
The victim suffered head injuries, according to the report.�
